Custom Chemical Formulation Process & Organic Synthesis

NuGlue, LLC bridges the gap between complex molecular polymer formulation and market-ready industrial application. Our custom specialty process additives and custom chemical formulations are engineered with the highest academic rigor:

  • Develop New Custom Formulas: Original compound synthesis and molecular network design engineered to meet specific lap-shear, tensile limit, UV exposure, and moisture variables from scratch.
  • Modify & Enhance Existing Compositions: Modifying existing formulas to eliminate hazardous VOCs, reduce wholesale material costs, optimize pot life/viscosity, or increase thermal limits (up to 350°C).
  • Acquire or License Pre-Engineered IP: Skip the long R&D cycle. Chances are we have already designed, formulated, and tested the chemical compound you need. Explore our extensive pre-existing compound catalog available for wholesale license or immediate private label production.

Request Mutual NDA Form

Our Custom Chemical Formulation Process

Six stages from first conversation to production. You review results at every stage, so a project can stop or change direction before a large commitment is made.

Discovery & Mutual NDA

We sign a reciprocal non-disclosure agreement first, then capture your substrate, cure window, service temperature, regulatory limits and target cost per gallon.

Feasibility & Chemistry Selection

Our chemists select the resin backbone and cure mechanism — epoxy, polyurea, polyaspartic, silane-terminated, acrylic or solvent-borne — that can actually hit your specification.

Bench Formulation

We build the first laboratory batch, adjusting catalyst ratio, filler loading, rheology and pigment until the sample behaves the way your application demands.

Testing & Iteration

Lap-shear, peel, tensile, hardness, viscosity, pot life, adhesion and accelerated weathering are run against ASTM protocols. We iterate until the data clears your threshold.

Pilot Batch & Field Validation

You get a pilot blend to run in your real process or on a real jobsite. Formulation is corrected for how it performs in production, not just on the bench.

Scale-Up, SDS & Production

We finalize the manufacturing procedure, author the GHS-compliant Safety Data Sheet and label, then scale into wholesale production under your brand. The formula is assigned to you.

Custom Chemical Formulation Solutions We Deliver

Whether you need an original compound engineered from scratch or an existing formula made cheaper, cleaner or tougher, the work starts with your specification — not our catalog.

Custom Adhesive Formulation

Structural epoxies, acrylics, cyanoacrylates, hot melts, silane-terminated hybrids and contact adhesives engineered to a specific substrate pair and lap-shear target.

Custom Chemical Formulation FAQ

What clients ask before starting a formulation project — cost, ownership, process and timelines.

What are custom chemical formulation services?
Custom chemical formulation services are the design, testing and manufacture of a chemical product built to your specification rather than sold from a catalog. At NuGlue, that covers developing a new formula from scratch, modifying a formula you already own, matching or reverse engineering a discontinued product, and scaling the finished formula into production under your own brand. Every project runs under a mutual NDA and the resulting formula is assigned to you.
How much does custom chemical formulation cost?
Cost depends on how much unknown chemistry the project contains. Matching or lightly modifying an existing product is the least expensive path because the chemistry is already understood. Developing an original compound that has to survive a difficult environment — constant UV, chemical attack, thermal cycling or low surface energy plastics — takes more bench iterations and more testing. We quote each project after a short technical call, so you get a real number instead of a range.
Who owns the formula you develop for me?
You do. Under our service agreements, all custom-developed formulas, synthesis methods and product lines are assigned to you as your proprietary intellectual property. We design it, we formulate it, you own it. We also work under a reciprocal NDA before you disclose anything sensitive, and project documentation is siloed so no client's chemistry is ever visible to another.
What is the custom chemical formulation process from start to finish?
There are six stages: mutual NDA and requirements capture; feasibility and chemistry selection; bench formulation of the first lab batch; testing and iteration against ASTM protocols; a pilot batch you validate in your real process; then scale-up with a GHS-compliant SDS and label into production. You review results at each stage, so the project can stop or pivot before a large commitment.
Can you reverse engineer or match a product I already buy?
Yes. Formula matching is one of our most common requests, usually when a supplier discontinues a product, raises price sharply, or changes a formula and breaks a customer's process. We analyze the material, identify the functional chemistry, and rebuild an equivalent that meets the same performance targets — which you then own rather than rent from a vendor.
What types of chemicals can NuGlue formulate?
Adhesives and glues, epoxies, polyureas and polyaspartics, protective and elastomeric coatings, paints and primers, sealants, caulks and silicones, waterproofing membranes, organic solvents and custom solvent blends, specialty process additives, surfactants, and custom reagents. If it is a liquid, gel, paste or reactive two-part system used in industry, it is likely in scope.
Do I need to already know the chemistry I want?
No, and most clients do not. You bring the problem — what has to stick to what, what environment it lives in, what it currently costs you, what is failing. We bring the chemistry. The most useful things to have ready are the substrates involved, the temperature and exposure range, the cure or handling time your process allows, and any regulatory limits you are bound by.
What order volumes do you support?
We work from laboratory sample batches through pilot blends in the 100 to 500 gallon range and on to recurring wholesale contracts above 500 gallons. Starting at lab-sample scale is normal — it lets you validate the chemistry before committing to production volume.
Do you serve clients outside Wisconsin?
Yes. Our laboratory and blending operation is in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and we develop and ship for clients throughout the United States. Being in southeastern Wisconsin puts us inside the Chicago–Milwaukee industrial corridor, but location has no bearing on whether we can take your project.
Do you provide the SDS and GHS labeling?
Yes. Finished formulations ship with an authored Safety Data Sheet and labeling built to OSHA and GHS requirements, so the product is ready to sell rather than ready to start paperwork on. This is included in private label and contract production programs.
